Tom has over 13 years of experience as an accountant working across audit, forensic accounting, W&I (Warranty & Indemnity) insurance underwriting and claims. He specialises in financial investigations, business valuation and accounting breach analysis.

Tom regularly advises various well-known insurers on W&I claims and professional indemnity/negligence claims. Since 2021, Tom has advised on over 60 W&I claims arising from more than 45 different M&A deals, totaling over £570m in aggregate claimed value. Many of these instructions have involved a significant element of business valuation work.

Tom has advised on claims and disputes across the following industry sectors: Telecoms, IT Services, Facilities Management, Consumer Goods, Logistics, Software and AI, Financial Institutions, Tourism, Real Estate, Retail, Pharma, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Precision Measurement and Testing Laboratories . He has also advised on claims involving numerous types of breach of warranty, including: Warranted Financial Statements and Management Accounts, Accounting Records, Material Contracts, Information/disclosure Warranties, Replies to Enquiries, Regulatory Reporting, Compliance with Law, Product Liability, Financial Mis-selling and Professional Liability.

Tom’s professional indemnity/negligence work has focused on advising on quantum arising from breach of duty of solicitors (in an M&A context) and insurance brokers.

Tom’s practice is not limited to claims under English law. He has also advised on claims under the laws of Denmark, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Canada.

From 2018 to 2020, Tom worked at a major London market insurer, where he was involved in (and often leading) the underwriting of W&I insurance for large M&A transactions (often in the £100m – £1bn range). From this experience he brings a wealth of knowledge from exposure to valuation approaches, negotiating strategy and decision-making in respect of hundreds of M&A deals.
