Our Head of Crime and Fraud, Beverley Ibbotson, has been involved in hundreds of cases in the past 25 years, given Expert evidence in the High, Civil and Family Courts as well as in Crown Courts spanning the length and breadth of the UK.

The Crime and Fraud team take instructions from solicitors and barristers on both a private basis or government funded under the LAA, SLAB or LSA(NI) schemes for Expert Witnesses.

Recent Notable Cases

R v PW (2023)

Operation Canyon – Described as the UK’s largest conspiracy to smuggle drugs, mobile phones and many other contraband items into HM prisons.

With Beverely’s help, the Defendant’s representatives achieved acquittal of their defendant on all three conspiracy counts.

R v HB & Others (2022)

Operation Larkshot – The largest money laundering trial in English legal history.

Beverley was instructed by the Defence team to consider the money laundering allegations because of cash being paid into company bank accounts and used to buy gold bullion, the majority of which was sent to Dubai.

Beverley’s client was acquitted after an 8-month trial at Leeds Crown, including successful objection to admissibility of the Prosecutions Expert’s accountancy evidence, following the joint statement process.

R v MM (2021)

Charged with five counts of fraud by false representation, three counts of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception, one count of cheating the public revenue and one count of being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of income tax all in connection with the Grenfell Tower fire.

Our Expert Evidence was essential in assessing the correct level of monetary benefit derived from this fraud.
